Honda Philippines Inc., Forges Road Safety Partnership with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority

Pasig City, 21st July 2023 - Honda Philippines Inc. (HPI) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) have recently come together to a momentous occasion to sign a Memorandum Of Agreement (MOA) on promoting traffic safety at the MMDA building in Pasig City.

Coming from the MMDA’s official statement, the daunting statistics surrounding road traffic accidents and fatalities, particularly involving motorcycles, have prompted the establishment of this Road Safety initiative in partnership with the country’s largest motorcycle manufacturer.

In light of the Philippines ranking 11th out of 175 countries in road traffic deaths, with motorcycles contributing significantly to the numbers, the MMDA has taken a proactive step to address this issue.

According to Ms. Arai-Hattori, the partnership between HPI and the MMDA plays a key role in significantly reducing the number of traffic-related road crashes in Metro Manila. The Honda chief executive emphasized the importance of collaboration between the private sector and the government in mitigating the rising number of traffic-related road crash.

“Road safety is one of the greatest challenges that our nation is currently facing that requires a strong sense of urgency and collaboration among stakeholders and by becoming the industry main driver in terms of safety, quality, and innovation”, she added in a statement.

The goal of this partnership is to mitigate the number of fatal road crash in Metro Manila through a “train the trainer” program, wherein Honda Safety Driving Center has agreed to conduct comprehensive motorcycle skills training programs for the MMDA’s traffic safety instructors, as well as providing support in developing training modules aligned with Honda’s global safety direction and local traffic rules and regulations.

The Motorcycle Riding Academy welcomes all interested individuals free of charge. Participants who complete the necessary training will receive certificates of attendance and completion, recognizing their commitment to enhancing road safety and responsible riding.

Moreover, HPI will generously donate 21 Honda motorcycle units as an additional support to MMDA’s motorcycle riding academy practical training program.
